Synopsis

To Calm the Pig Inside is a contemplation on the effects a typhoon has on a seaside city. Myths are woven to try to understand how people cope with devastation and trauma. A girl divulges bits and pieces of her own memory of her mother and grandmother to tie in the feeling she felt visiting this ravaged port city.

    Joanna started filmmaking in Beijing after leaving the corporate and institutional world in search for new adventures. Joanna premiered her first feature documentary Neo-Lounge in 2007 recounting intimate stories of foreigners who went to Beijing searching to break from their past. This film won four awards, including two “Best Documentary” awards. Prior to filmmaking she first worked in finance around Asia and also was a consultant for UN agencies, including UNICEF in Beijing. She studied Politics & International Studies at Boston College/Sciences Po and have a Master in Environmental and Development Economics at the London School of Economics.
