Saguenay international
short film festival

Presented in collaboration with L’inis, this roundtable will examine questions of diversity, distinct identities and visibility in the short-film community. These politically aware and active filmmakers, programmers and artists, who work both in front of and behind the camera, will discuss the current state of affairs and offer their own perspectives. All are welcome! With Will Niava, Dominique Léger, and Jemmy Echaquan Dubé. Moderated in French by Jean Hamel.

For all audiences. Free Admission.

  • Will Niava

Will Niava is an Ivorian-Ghanaian film director based in Montreal. After his education in Film Production at the Melhoppenheim School of Cinema, Will directed his very own directing debut “ZOO”. Will is also preparing his first feature film experience, co-writing with Jérémy Comte, who is Oscar-Nominated Director.

  • Jemmy Echaquan Dubé

Jemmy Echaquan Dubé is Atikamekw from Manawan. She grew up in the community until she was six years old before moving to Joliette with her mother and three brothers. At the age of 14, however, she returned to Manawan to relearn her language. Passionate about all forms of art, such as photography, painting, film, music and dance, she went to study visual arts at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières. She is a professional editor and has worked on corporate projects for a number of organizations. She also gives awareness workshops to non-indigenous people. In 2017 and 2018, visits to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues inspired her to sensitize young indigenous people to become leaders and be aware of their rights. She did an internship at the National Film Board of Canada and is currently spokesperson for the Youth Network of the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador. A real jack-of-all-trades, Jemmy is working on several quality writing, directing and musical projects. At the moment, she works for Wapikoni as an assistant for audience development and diffusion. On television, she has a star turn as Flemish Daisie in the series Fugueuse – la suite.
