Synopsis

Special mention of the Best Youth Short Film Award

Thirteen-year-old Gaby arrives in the Magdalen Islands to spend the summer with her father, as she does every year. She is thrilled to find the sea she loves so much, the childhood friends, the winding hills on the horizon, and the warm joy of her dad's home. But this time something is different: she hit puberty, and her life will never be the same.

    After studying communication at Concordia University and cinema at L'inis, Zoé Pelchat started her career in the world of music videos before devoting herself to fiction and publicity. She achieved her first major success through her web series Dominos (2018-2020), broadcasted on TV5/Unis.tv. The two seasons have traveled around the world and won several awards, including the Best Digital Series trophy at Canneseries. Zoé followed this up with her first fiction short, Lune (2020), presented at the prestigious Clermond-Ferrand festival and then selected amongst 40 international film festivals. The film won five awards and gathered several mentions for the performance of its lead actress, Joanie Martel. It is currently nominated for the Iris award for Best Short at the Gala du cinema Québécois. Zoé now pursues her advertising career with Cinélande as well as developing he first feature film, Douce prière. In 2022, she released two new shorts, Atlantis and Gaby les collines. Her work always features her very personal signature: sharp dialogue, intoxicating visuals and an undeniable love of people.
