After his law studies, Xavier joined the Institut des Arts de Diffusion (IAD) in Belgium. Very early on, he showed a penchant for wry humour and a certain propensity to shoot in black and white. In 2005, his graduation film “Rien d’insoluble” was selected for the Venice Film Festival. He then directed “Le crabe” with Christophe Hermans and co-wrote “En compagnie de la poussière” by Jacques Molitor, which was nominated at the Locarno Festival. Xavier also directed with Cédric Bourgeois “Dreamcatchers,” a documentary on Belgian wrestlers. From 2011, he makes several short films with Méryl Fortunat-Rossi like “Mauvaise lune” (nominated for the Belgian Magritte du Cinéma), “L’ours noir” (230 selections, including Clermont-Ferrand, as well as some 40 awards like a Méliès d’Argent and the Magritte for best short fictional film) and “Le plombier” (22 awards including, once again, the Magritte for best short fictional film). He collaborates on some short films writing such as “Kapistalistis” by Pablo Munoz Gomes (multi-awarded in festivals, including Locarno) and “Vihta” by François Bierry (Special Jury Prize in Clermont-Ferrand). In 2016, Xavier completed “Je me tue à le dire,” his first feature film. This dark and offbeat comedy was selected at the Karlovy Vary Festival, at the FNC in Montreal in the Temps Ø section and at Stitges. He won many awards including the New Voices/New Visions Award at the Palm Springs Festival, the Best Director Award in Odessa and the Magritte for Best Screenplay and Best Actor, awarded to Jean-Jacques Rausin. In 2017, the FIFIGROT (Greenland Festival) devoted a first retrospective to him.
