Saguenay international
short film festival

There are just a couple of days left to submit your film for the 26 th edition of REGARD! Starting in November, the programming team will get to work picking the best possible group of short films, to be announced in February. No one is better placed to talk about the impact of having a short film selected for REGARD than the winner of the Grand Prix at the 25th edition, Emmanuel Tenenbaum.

We caught up with the French filmmaker between festivals to talk about his love for our event. Emmanuel is a regular at multiple festivals around the world, and he’s attended REGARD several times. Over the years, he came to realize that it’s the one he loves the most.

I can say unequivocally that REGARD is my absolute favourite festival! It’s such a joy to show
your film in sold-out theatres, to a good-natured audience of cinephiles.

He couldn’t travel to this summer’s 25 th edition because of the pandemic, but he still won the Grand Prix for his short film Free Fall. It’s a film that keeps you on the edge of your seat for its full 20 minutes.

Having a film screened at REGARD leaves no one indifferent, and Emmanuel enjoyed a particularly gratifying experience. It’s worth noting that the winner of the festival’s Grand Prix becomes eligible to qualify for the Oscars. We asked Emmanuel how his filmmaking career has changed since he won our most prestigious award for Free Fall.

Since REGARD my skin is younger, my hair is thicker, my teeth are whiter! But seriously, in our case we were thrilled to win the Grand Prix, which put us in the Oscar race, and that’s a wonderful experience. I also think the award led to some subsequent festival selections.

In a nutshell, REGARD is full of surprises and growth opportunities. And there’s still time, dear filmmakers, to send us your latest work – but hurry, submissions close on November 1.

Who knows – maybe you’ll get whiter teeth this year?
