Focus on director Ghasideh Golmakani

REGARD is very proud to highlight the talent of this Iranian director, who will be among us to show her last three films.

Born in Tehran, Ghasideh would leave the country at 18 and take up residence in Paris in order to study Art History and Cultural Studies. Her PhD studies at the Sorbonne University focus on the influence of Iranian masters on young filmmakers.

“I had chosen France for the values embodied in its motto: Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. Many girls leave Iran when they come of age in search of these ideals. Through my travels and over time, I have come to understand and accept the faults of my own country. A long process at the end of which I returned to Iran in 2016, where I began directing films as an autodidact. Simple, lyrical and sometimes funny films; showing stories about a society both unique and universal.“

While Online Shopping and Horn handle human behaviour with humour, Limbo is much darker, much like Animal, the film she has chosen to present in addition to this program.

A discussion hosted by film critic Manon Dumais will follow the screening.
