From Durban to Chicoutimi, it's an honor to welcome Andrea Voges, head of programming, to present these 4 shorts films which stood out at DIFF 2023. Founded in 1979, The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa. The 45th edition, set to take place from 18 to 28 July 2024, will premiere around 100 films, host workshops, seminars and outreach activities that include screenings in township areas where cinemas do not exist. DIFF is a one of four Oscar qualifying festivals in Africa and the only one in Southern Africa.
"DIFF is pleased to present a package of films that explores the theme of land – and inextricably colonisation, capitalism and the idea of promise lands. The package showcases the diversity of stories and experiences related to land, and how our heritage and history play a significant role in shaping our relationship with it. The package includes DIFF’s Best South African Short Film, Mirror Mirror, a journey of best friends into the wonderland that is womanhood." Andrea Vogues
