Carte blanche - SHOW ME SHORTS - New Zealand

STORIES FROM A FARAWAY LAND: NEW ZEALAND

Up until the early 80s, New Zealand cinema seemed to be made up exclusively of documentaries, featuring the exotic fauna and flora of the archipelago. The following years were marked, among other things, by the works of Jane Campion and Peter Jackson. During this period, short films began to make their mark, with New Zealand filmmakers making use of the format in order to deepen their aestheticism and cinema- tographic language. Since then, no less than 40 New Zealand shorts have been presented at the Cannes Film Festival in the last 25 years.

With its home on these paradisiac islands in the middle of the Pacific, this Carte Blanche, presented by the Show Me Shorts Festival, brings together an original selection of the most notable shorts of the year. Approa- ching its 10th anniversary, the event is now part of the national film landscape, offering its programming everywhere on the archipelago throughout the entire month of November.
