Synopsis

Step into the stillness of an abandoned school and enter GYMNASIA, a place where the ghostly ephemera of a lost childhood await you. Recall the particular sights and sounds of a child’s world through the echoes of ball games, school lessons and choir recitals.

To discover this VR Experience, go to the 2nd floor of the Théâtre Banque Nationale theater for a simultaneous broadcast in group of five of the two short films of the program: Gymnasia (6 min.) and Isle of Dogs (5 min.).

  • Chris Lavis Et Maciek Szczerbowski

    Directors and animators Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski form the collective Clyde Henry Productions. Their film Madame Tutli-Putli (2007, NFB) has won numerous awards, notably at the Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Short Film category. They then made an adaptation of the children's book by Maurice Sendak Higglety Pigglety Pop! and directed Meryl Streep in their film co-produced in 2010 by Spike Jonze, Vincent Landay and Marcy Page (ONF). Lavis and Szczerbowski also received a nomination for the Canadian Screen Awards in the Best Artistic Achievement category for their work in Guy Maddin's fiction film The Forbidden Room (2015), co-produced by the NFB.
