Carte blanche: Singapore International Film Festival

Southeast Asian cinema has a special place in our hearts, and it is a great pleasure to deepen and share our enjoyment by welcoming you to this great Carte Blanche session from the Singapore IFF. Programming director Ming-Jung Kuo presents five terrific works by young filmmakers from Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines and Thailand.
Five short films from Southeast Asia showcasing five young directors representing Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, The Philippines and Thailand. With exciting body of short films under their belt; most of them are now preparing their debut feature. These directors point to new voices for the future. Collectively, the films – two by female directors, three by male, but all with female central characters – indicate different attitudes and alignments in Southeast Asian cinema, eschewing the reflective, poetic styles towards vibrant, socially engaged stories adopting punkish provocations, body-horror, semi-autobiographical and identity-rich themes, each determined to find its own cinematic vision.

Special guest: Ming Jung Kuo, Program curator and SGIFF programming director
There will be a question and answer session at the end of the second screening of the program.
