The Americana parallel competition, new for 2020, has been in the works for quite a while. Now it’s finally here. It’s all about keeping an eye on emerging artists, putting bold works in the spotlight, hearing alternative voices. In a word, panning for gold.

Given that this is a brand new part of our festival, we’re more than a little proud to present a spicy program showcasing five raw talents from the Americas – mostly women, incidentally.

Love both fraught and unconditional, shifting identities, uninhibited bodies and cruel exiles: frame by frame, a panorama of liberated filmmakers who breathe life into engaging, sincere and simply remarkable stories.

We’re willing to bet Americana has a bright future.
There will be a question and answer session at the end of the second screening of the program.
