Witcheries

Through the faces of sorcery, spirituality and magic, we glimpse the margins of our societies. Seen as transgressive against the status quo, these figures embody mysterious forces that draw strength from untamed spaces, often linked to nature and outside human control.

Set in eastern Bosnia, A sad se spusta vece testifies to mutual support two old women give each other day after day, their lives punctuated by working the soil, herding livestock and the immutable and uncontrollable cycles of the elements. It is the wilderness that they try to take away from women in Nocturno para uma floresta – they are blocked from part of the forest. In the dead of night, when only auras provide light in the dark, they build their own invisible realm. In On and on and on, a Mi'kmaq elder shares a dark prophecy concerning the future of the global ecosystem. De Gallo Qui Ovavit explores the mythical story of roosters that lay eggs, seen through the ages as monstrous creatures or satanic symbols. The eccentric Which is Witch? tells the story of three sisters, all witches, who try to thaw out a stranger. Things don’t always go according to plan in Whitch, and Luc je suis ton père looks into the anxieties of a filmmaker who calls upon a medium for advice. Although every culture has its own spiritual codes, this program offers a brief look at visible and invisible worlds. It’s like a mesmerizing rocking chair – with rituals, incantations and ceremonies.
