A glimpse on the country of the rising sun
In Japan, there are no public organizations such as the SODEC, NFB or TELEFILM,
nor public film schools. The producers do not benefit from copyright, all rests in the
hands of the production entities. Even more privately, it’s an act of harakiri, even
though the industry is flourishing in terms of quantity and viewers. The films navigate
between ancient and modern times, infused with Asian culture.
A venue from the opposite end of the world, this Carte blanche presented by the
Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia reunite the best that Japanese shorts have to offer.
Founded in 1999 in Tokyo, Japan, the Short Shorts Film Festival has the mission to
introduce the public to short film on an international level. In 2004, with assistance
from Governor Shintaro Ishiara, Short Shorts developed a series of programs
dedicated to Asian productions. Today, in addition to its rich and varied international
competition, the event is now known as a must-see international window on Asian
short films.
The festival manager, Seigo Tono, is at REGARD to share with the public this buffet
of Japanese shorts.
