Saguenay international
short film festival

A warm balm for the soul at the end of another Quebec winter, Americana is a welcome sunny tour of emerging Latin American cinema. Programmed by Jaime Manrique of Bogoshorts (Bogota Short Film Festival), his selection of 6 short films is a riot of style and colour: the Argentinian film Después de las 12 stars a slightly creepy Santa Claus; La sixtina is a Colombian film about the creation of a fresco from recycled street waste; Entre dos islas, a brilliantly made coming-of-age story in which the Cuban and Japanese identities of a teenager collide; Bebé finds a young Nina seeking her place in her blended family; Chica de fábrica denounces the precarious working conditions of a clandestine Mexican sweatshop, and in the closing film Pasajero, the social codes and behaviour of passengers on public transport are played with to comic effect.
The perfect plan to travel light!
