In its first 25 years, REGARD has evolved from a non-competitive event into a festival recognized by the Motion Picture Academy, presenting awards coveted by filmmakers around the world. We are one of a select few North American short-film festivals to host a FIPRESCI jury, which presents an international critics’ award alongside the Prix AQCC, selected by Canadian critics. Eight prizes valued at nearly $50,000 in money and services will be presented this year, as will two Grand Prizes leading to the Oscar nomination process. There are 56 films in the official competition: 12 world premieres, 25 Quebec-made films, 3 from English Canada and 28 foreign films from more than 20 countries. From the classic to the eccentric, our aim is to select films for the competition that share a deep sense of humanity and proximity. It is a thrilling selection that will make you move, travel, dream – the perfect way to shake off the dreariness and boredom of a year and half spent living with a pandemic!
